CRUX Terms of Service
Last Updated: February 10th, 2025
Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms", "Terms of Service") carefully before using the CRUX Chrome extension (the "Service") operated by Algol ("us", "we", or "our").
Your access to and use of the Service is conditioned on your acceptance of and compliance with these Terms. These Terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access or use the Service.
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of the terms, you may not access the Service.
For information about how we collect, use, and share your personal information, please review our Privacy Policy.
1. Subscriptions
Some parts of the Service are billed on a subscription basis ("Subscription(s)"). You will be billed in advance on a recurring and periodic basis ("Billing Cycle"). Billing cycles are set on a monthly or annual basis, depending on the type of subscription plan you select when purchasing a Subscription.
At the end of each Billing Cycle, your Subscription will automatically renew under the exact same conditions unless you cancel it or Algol cancels it. You may cancel your Subscription renewal either through your online account management page or by contacting Algol customer support team.
You may cancel your Subscription renewal at any time, effective at the end of the current Billing Cycle. Cancellation after the start of a Billing Cycle will take effect at the end of that period and will not result in a prorated refund.
A valid payment method, including credit card, is required to process the payment for your Subscription. You shall provide Algol with accurate and complete billing information including full name, address, state, zip code, telephone number, and valid payment method information. By submitting such payment information, you automatically authorize Algol to charge all Subscription fees incurred through your account to any such payment instruments.
Should automatic billing fail to occur for any reason, Algol will issue an electronic invoice indicating that you must proceed manually, within a certain deadline date, with the full payment corresponding to the billing period as indicated on the invoice.
2. Free Trial
Algol may, at its sole discretion, offer a Subscription with a free trial for a limited period of time ("Free Trial").
The exact duration of the Free Trial will be clearly stated at the time of signup.
You may be required to enter your billing information in order to sign up for the Free Trial.
If you do enter your billing information when signing up for the Free Trial, you will not be charged by Algol until the Free Trial has expired. On the last day of the Free Trial period, unless you cancelled your Subscription, you will be automatically charged the applicable subscription fee for the type of Subscription you have selected.
At any time and without notice, Algol reserves the right to (i) modify the terms and conditions of the Free Trial offer, or (ii) cancel such Free Trial offer.
3. Usage Limits
The Service may have usage limits based on your subscription tier. These limits may include, but are not limited to, the number of summaries generated, the length of content that can be summarized, and the frequency of requests. Exceeding these limits may result in temporary service restrictions until the next billing cycle or may require an upgrade to a higher subscription tier.
Algol will make reasonable efforts to notify you if you approach or exceed usage limits. It is your responsibility to monitor your usage accordingly.
4. Content
Our Service allows you to summarize content from various websites and YouTube videos. The summaries generated are intended for personal use and reference only. You understand that Algol does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or quality of any summaries generated through the Service.
You acknowledge that the summaries generated by the Service are created using artificial intelligence and may not capture all nuances, context, or details of the original content. The summaries should not be relied upon as a substitute for reading or viewing the original content, especially for critical decision-making, academic research, or professional advice.
You are solely responsible for ensuring that your use of summaries generated by the Service complies with applicable copyright laws and third-party terms.
5. Intellectual Property
The Service and its original content (excluding content summarized from third-party sources), features, and functionality are and will remain the exclusive property of Algol and its licensors. The Service is protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws of both the United States and foreign countries. Our trademarks and trade dress may not be used in connection with any product or service without the prior written consent of Algol.
Summaries generated by the Service are provided exclusively for your personal, non-commercial use. You may copy, store, and share summaries only for personal reference or within the scope of fair use. Any commercial redistribution, resale, or reproduction of these summaries without explicit permission from Algol is prohibited.
6. Prohibited Uses
You agree not to use the Service:
- In any way that violates any applicable federal, state, local, or international law or regulation.
- To summarize content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically, or otherwise objectionable.
- To engage in any other conduct that restricts or inhibits anyone's use or enjoyment of the Service, or which, as determined by us, may harm Algol or users of the Service, or expose them to liability.
- To attempt to circumvent any usage limits, quotas, or technical measures implemented in the Service.
- To reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service.
- To use automated scripts, bots, or other means to access or interact with the Service outside of the provided user interface.
Violation of these prohibited uses may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account and potential legal action.
7. User Responsibilities

- Ensuring your login credentials remain secure and confidential.
- Promptly notifying Algol of any unauthorized account usage or security breaches.

8. Disclaimer
The Service is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis without warranties of any kind. Algol explicitly disclaims any warranty related to accuracy, completeness, suitability, reliability, or quality of the AI-generated summaries. You acknowledge the inherent limitations of artificial intelligence and agree that Algol shall not be liable for any inaccuracies, omissions, or misinterpretations of the original content.
Algol, its subsidiaries, affiliates, and licensors do not warrant that a) the Service will function uninterrupted, secure, or available at any particular time or location; b) any errors or defects will be corrected; c) the Service is free of viruses or other harmful components; or d) the results of using the Service will meet your requirements.
9. Limitation of Liability
In no event shall Algol, nor its directors, employees, partners, agents, suppliers, or affiliates, be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including without limitation, loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from (i) your access to or use of or inability to access or use the Service; (ii) any conduct or content of any third party on the Service; (iii) any content obtained from the Service; and (iv) unauthorized access, use, or alteration of your transmissions or content, whether based on warranty, contract, tort (including negligence), or any other legal theory, whether or not we have been informed of the possibility of such damage, and even if a remedy set forth herein is found to have failed of its essential purpose.
In no event shall Algol's total liability arising out of or related to these Terms or your use of the Service exceed the amount paid by you for the Subscription during the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
10. Termination
We may terminate or suspend your access to the Service immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason whatsoever, including without limitation if you breach the Terms.
If your access is terminated due to violation of these Terms, reinstatement will be at Algol's sole discretion.
All provisions of the Terms which by their nature should survive termination shall survive termination, including, without limitation, ownership provisions, warranty disclaimers, indemnity, and limitations of liability.
11. Changes
We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to modify or replace these Terms at any time. If a revision is material, we will try to provide at least 30 days' notice prior to any new terms taking effect. What constitutes a material change will be determined at our sole discretion.
Material changes will be communicated to you via email, notifications within the Service, or by prominently posting an update on our website.
By continuing to access or use our Service after those revisions become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised terms. If you do not agree to the new terms, please stop using the Service.
12. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of Poland, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
For users in the European Union, these Terms shall not deprive you of any mandatory consumer protections under the law of your country of residence, where such protections cannot be derogated from by agreement.
Any dispute arising from these Terms shall be resolved through the courts of Poland, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your jurisdiction require otherwise.
Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms will not be considered a waiver of those rights. If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable by a court, the remaining provisions of these Terms will remain in effect. These Terms constitute the entire agreement between us regarding our Service, and supersede and replace any prior agreements we might have between us regarding the Service.
13. Refund Policy
Subscription fees are non-refundable except where required by law. In exceptional circumstances, Algol may, at its sole discretion, offer a partial or full refund. Requests for refunds should be submitted to our support team within 7 days of the charge date.
